Launch of Fanatics' Pennsylvania sportsbook and online casino

The Pennsylvania-based operator of a sportsbook and online casino, Fanatics Betting and Gaming (FBG), made the announcement on Monday (23 January).
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is overseeing a two-day soft launch of Fanatics Colorado Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino in Pennsylvania.  Customers, however, will not be subject to any limitations on either signups or playtime.

Anyone in or visiting Pennsylvania can access the Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino.  It is the second US state to provide FBG's casino aspect, following West Virginia, and the eleventh to offer FBG's sportsbook.

Customers of PointsBet were given the opportunity to transfer their accounts to the Fanatics Sportsbook app on the first day of its release when FBG acquired the company in August 2023.

The New York-based FBG asserts that it is "disrupting the sports betting industry" with its FanCash loyalty program, customisation options, and live streaming capabilities.

At the same time, FBG focused on the casino's "exciting" slot roster and the new games it offers thanks to its collaboration with Light & Wonder.  Additionally, FBG's Fanatics titles Studio is set to release more unique content later this year, with additional titles in the works.

2023: Pennsylvania achieves record-breaking revenue with igaming
With a record-breaking $5.7 billion (£4.5 billion/€5.2 billion) in revenue, Pennsylvania's gaming business had a spectacular year in 2023.  Revenue from igaming and sports betting hit new heights, fuelling this.

With a growth of 27.7 percent over the previous record, New Jersey's igaming revenue hit $1.7 billion in 2023.
With $5.7 billion, it surpassed the previous record of $5.2 billion, which was achieved in 2022, by 9.3 percent.  Revenue increased to $2.5 billion, with physical slots leading the pack.

FBG is capitalising on a promising igaming sector by opening casinos in Pennsylvania.  This follows the 2019 legalisation of online casinos in the state.

By 2023, Pennsylvania's igaming revenue had surpassed $1.7 billion, setting a new record by 27.7 percent.  The igaming sector in Pennsylvania has already surpassed the $1 billion mark in 2021, and it is possible that their revenue will approach $2 billion in 2024.

Pennsylvania's booming sports betting industry presents an opportunity for FBG.
In 2023, sports betting in Pennsylvania hit a new high of $458.6 million, adding to the success of igaming in the state.  Compared to the previous record, which was set in 2022, this was 14.3% greater.  In 2023, the player handle reached $7.7 billion, which was 6% more than the previous record of $7.3 billion.

FBG will face off against industry heavyweights like FanDuel and DraftKings in Pennsylvania. FanDuel is associated with Valley Forge Casino Resort, while DraftKings is with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows. The state's sports betting volume surpassed $7.7 billion in 2023, setting a new record.

The Pennsylvania sports betting market is now led by FanDuel, with $233.6 million in revenue, as reported in the December 2023 report.  In the meantime, DraftKings racked up $121.1m, while BetMGM and its alliance with Hollywood Casino Morgantown trailed well behind in third place with $21m.

In an interview with iGB in 2023, FBG CEO Matt King expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of competing with industry heavyweights like FanDuel and DraftKings. Before joining FBG, King brought DraftKings to the top of the US sports betting market.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National brought in $61 million, more than any other online gambling establishment.  Following Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $31.3 million was Valley Forge Casino Resort, with $41.3 million in second place.
